Leather treatment

Can anyone recommend leather treatment for the black leather seats in my S2?

Both seats are slightly scuffed in places, nothing serious. I would like to fix the scuffing and then treat them.

Any advice anyone?

Thanks,

Mark

Both Armorall and Meguires make very good leather care products. I've used Armorall spray conditioner, and a One Step Meguires lotion. Both work very well on my tan american leather. Havn't tried on a Porsche, since I don't own one yet, try under the seat where you don't see it first.

Don't know about the scuffing.

Lexol cleaner and conditioner are the best, hands down. I've been using it in my 951 for the last 9 years and the seats held up superbly.

I use the meguires on mine. Works great so far and it is easy to apply.

I really don't think the brand matters as much as doing it, and doing it as often as you wash your car. Just make sure you buy a product that does not have any type of alcohol as an ingredient.... it dries leather. It's a good idea to vacume out all the dirt and junk out of the seat crevises first, getting deep down and getting all of the gunk out before conditioning the surface you see. Get the conditioner down in the crevises also. Then get a window shade and use it and keep the car out of the sun.

That's probably the best advice! I've been fortunate to have been able to keep my car covered or garaged over the last nine years, but recently I've had ot use it as a daily driver for a while and I can already see the effects.

I would only use Lexol Cleaner/Conditioner, Zymol Leather Products, and Ive heard Hide Food works well. Vinylex for the dash.
just say no to armorall.

Sun shade is a great idea. Also get your windows tinted with a tint that blocks UV rays. That will do more to save your interior than anything else.

I would have to agree. I've used Lexol/Vinylex for the last 10yrs with great success. Used to use Armorall "back in the day" and actually had it dry the dash out faster if I didn't keep using it. I've also outgrown that greasy shine.

Oh, and the joke with Hide Food is that they take the moisture out of your connolly leather at the factory and then put it in a can and sell it back to you.

I vote for lexol, I use it on my leather porsche seats and my dad uses it for his leather chairs in the house. Its truly great stuff, works like a charm. Make sure you always do it often, just like has been suggested.

Although it's about $10.00 per bottle for the cleaner and conditioner, it is cheap insurance indeed.

Hey guys, I've been reading that everyone thinks lexol is cool and all when they first use it, but it is actually INFERIOR to leatherique. Once someone uses leatherique, they become an automatic leatherique salesman.

www.leatherique.com

don't let the shoddy website design or order form deter you, its a great product. Lemme get some pics up.

before

after

For the entire writeup on using leatherique, here's the link

You might also get discounts if you are part of PCA, I know for BMWCCA, they give discounts off the prices.

I guess it's not fair to judge from the photos, but it looks a bit too greasy for me.

Just my 2c

i was thinking more along the lines of a "nourished" and "enriched" and "moisturized" type of look....haha. I guess healthy leather seats sorta look greasy...

Those photos look more like it was done with brightness and color adjustments than the leather conditioner. Look at how it made the carpet 'richer' also along with all the plastic trim.

lexol is my vote, my 89 s2 just had the seats re-dyed last winter. and the shop that did the work recommended lexol. they do literally hundreds of seats a year and i think they know what they are talking about. we treated the seats about 8-10 times now and really notice a difference. the leather is much more supple than before, it was pretty dry. the shop said if the lexol did not help, the only other alternative is new leather. ouch!

I'd have to agree. I haven't personally used the 'leatherique' stuff so I can't say anything against it, but the Lexol has been on my '87 951 seats for the last nine years and they look pretty much the same as they did when I bought the car. Let's just say that unless I see some really big convincing evidence, I'm not going to switch.
