I bought a used 944s tranny to replace the bad one in my 85.5. When i went to put the coupler on the input shaft of the tranny it will only go on 2 1/2 inches. Upon inspection on the input shaft it appeares that the splines were not cut all the way as the is about 1/16 inch of metal behind the splines.
I have tried 2 different couplers with the same result and both will slide all the way down the input shaft on the original tranny. Has anyone seen this type of problem before? I spoke to the guy i bought it from and he said he had no problem getting the original coupler to slide on all the way. Unforenutely he threw it away figuring I did not need one. Dave ![]() |

Well after doing some modifications I was able to get it in. Just got back from a 30 mile test run and everything seems to be ok with the exception that it looks like i have a leak from the oil pan.
oh well, at I have a car to drive now! |
