944 Under-Dash Vacuum Hose?

While removing the rats nest of wires that were associated with the defunct Clifford alarm my father-in-law had in this car, I saw a dangling rubber tube that wasn’t connected to anything. It seemed its only purpose was to catch onto my clutch foot along with the old alarm wires. What is/was the purpose of this rubber hose? Vacuum hose? Everything seems to run perfectly on the car. Attached is a photo with a quarter positioned for size reference.

After doing research, it seems that there is a vacuum hose under the dash for heater/air vents. Hmmm, everything seems to work fine, but now I wonder if “everything” would even be better if this hose was connected. Now, find a shop that knows about 944 vacuum hoses.
