A/C Compressor Remounting
Threw the belts. Found that the compressor had lost the front bolt. How? Don't know.
Ordered new belts and bolts. I just cant get the bolt to go through the bracket and through the ear on the compressor. I know it's clear because I did get a too short bolt to go through. Its a tight fit for my hand up there (coming from the bottom on my lift). I can push the compressor up but I just can't get the bolt to go through the ear. After I get the bolt in, I can mount the new belts and tension them. Anyone have any suggestions? I know my car is a 951 but I figured more of you would see it here. Thanks for any ideas. My poor hand is getting beat to heck. |

This sort of thing often arises if someone does not adjust the belts properly and instead uses the adjusting struts to bend and break mounting points, etc. Thrown belts, bent struts, stripped and bent mounting points, etc.
You have to be careful and avoid using the struts to force stuff, they have a huge mechanical advantage. the order is important: Break loose the locking nuts on the struts Break loose the end bolts loosen the pivot bolts adjust the belts --reverse-- In your case maybe something is bent or stripped now and you have to deal with that.

Thank you for your response.
The turnbuckles are brand new. The only issue I have is getting the front bolt on the top of the compressor to go through the mounting bracket from front to back. Since I did not mount the new compressor some years ago, I have not seen the ears on the compressor body. I am wondering if the ears are threaded or if the bolt going in from the front should just slide all the way through with a nut and washer on the inside. If I can get the compressor mounted, the installation of the belts and setting the tension should be pretty easy. |
