1984 944 No Spark

Having an issue getting my car to start. It turns over but doesn't fire up at all. Before it stopped working, I installed new headlights and a new DME relay by Focus 9. I was also having an issue where the hatch wasn't closing properly because one of the pins broke so it was left semi-open. This meant that the interior luggage light and dome light were on the entire time I was gone fishing. When I got back after 3 days, the battery was around 11.6 volts and the car wouldn't start - thought maybe because the battery was dead. Recharged the battery and still the same issue.

Tach doesn't really bounce when I try to turn it on - it only bounces a little bit when I take the key out. I took out the fuel line going towards the injectors and fuel came out when I tried cranking it, so it's a spark issue. Tried pulling out one of the electrical connectors to the injector and still no luck.

Any ideas? Is it possible I shorted something out when I installed the headlights or the DME relay? Or maybe the coil or speed/reference sensors broke?

Always best to start with a DME relay jumper. Or maybe a peek at the timing belt, see if the rotor is turning.

Then maybe a test light on the coil, see if you are getting the negative pulses.

Solved! The wires to the crank sensors from DME was worn down and causing it to short itself.
