1987 924s A/C Settings?

Trying to troubleshoot my air conditioning. The blower for the lower fan switch works fine but when I turn the A/C blower the fan/blower that was on turns off and nothing happens.

My question is what position do all the controls need to be in for proper A/C function? Which way should the outer ring in the A/C switch be turned?

Unfortunately I do not have an owners manual and haven't been able to find this anywhere.

Thanks for any input,
Steven

If your AC/heater system is working properly, to set the AC to maximum cold, it should be set as follows:

1) The outer ring with the blue triangle (temperature control) should be turned fully clockwise.

2) The inner knob should control the fan speed (3 is max).

If not working, you have a problem with your AC or the electrical system...

The ventilation/heater fan is a different fan than the a/c fan. The relay that turns off the heater fan is powered by the same circuit that powers the A/C fan, so something is wrong with the A/C fan motor, or there is a wiring problem.

Thank you!

gb944, that is what I was looking for. The outer ring thing throws me off. Seems kinda like what older BMW's have.

originalowner, I believe this to be true. I think the a/c blower is not getting power. It spins freely by hand. All of my relays are new or confirmed working but one. The little 3 prong one in the glove box area. Also hard to see the wiring for the blower to test it.

If turning on the AC fan turns the heater fan off... I'd wonder about a bad ground???

That is the way the AC system is designed to work on the square dash cars.

AC fan on -> fresh air fan off.

Oh! No such sign on my square dash car - but it's the earlier HVAC system, of course.

No sign, that's just the way that the factory system on the early cars and the 924s cars works.
