Tire Question

I do a lot of shopping at Costco and recently a discount coupon book was mailed to my house. I noticed a coupon in the book for $60 off 4 Michelin or Bridgestone tires.

I checked out Costco.com and found these;

Michelin® Pilot XGT V4 P215/60VR15

All-Season High Performance

$132.99/tire installed, minus $60 makes it about $468 for 4 new shoes for my baby.

Looks like a good deal. Just wondering if anyone else here has these tires on their car.

on my turbo twists I have Michelin® Pilot Sport all season 235/45 17" on all corners that I think are great for the NE part of the country

go to www.tirerack.com and check the 'reviews' for the XGT then decide

that sounds like a pretty good deal if the reviews are good

anyone else?

Thumbs down

That's kinda pricey for these size tire. Do a search on Tirerack, I bet you find several tires in the $60 range EACH. Even with shipping and installation you'll be way ahead of the Costco deal.

Michelin does make a 235-55-15 that I would consider, it's usually around 150/tire.

This is a very good tire. I have them on my 944. I bought them at Sears for about the same price.

Tire Rack has these tires for $120 each plus shipping plus mounting. If those are the tires you want then you have a good deal from Costco.

DUJLOP were great on my saab, nice comfy ride, held great, wore fast, dunlop sport 5000 seem kind of hard and stiff on my iroc, take a lot to warm them up, then good grip on great pavement, poor stopping on uneven surface roads, the Michelins on my cherokee made it ride like a caddy, and handle like a porschE, for over 60 k miles(from sears)

I have Dunlop D4s on my 84 944. I believe they are the predecessor to the Sport A2. They are great tires except for one thing: they flat-spot when parked for more than a few days. This exacerbates the 944-famous front-end 70 mph vibration. They round out after being driven, but in the winter it takes a while.

They are great in the snow/rain, they have great treadwear, and do 100+mph for hours (in Italy, not the States). They hold a hard corner and brake well, too, but not like a true high-performance tire. If the 944 is a daily driver and you want a great tire with some performance, you can't beat the Sport A2 for $63 at Tire Rack http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Dunlop&tireModel=SP+Sport+A2

Tire Rack is a great website. Most of their tires are track tested with a write-up, and most of them have hundreds of customer inputs.

If you want high performance or if your 944 is a summer weekend car then I'd go with a Michelin XHT H4. Better performance tire with less tread life.

Because the wobble of the Dunlop drives me nuts I think I'm going to try the Bridgestone RE 950 next.
