I replaced the water pump on my 89 auto lux with a refurb from pelican parts (part E-106-021-24X ) it was a rebuilt 86 model and the impeller was slightly different to the one I took out..
I had it installed and developed some overheating problems, I posted here and got some good ideas as to what to check, thermostat, radiator , belt tightness, etc.. However all seems ok, the shop is now saying that it might be the water pump itself… Not sure I buy that line yet, but the are going to put a new one in to test it. Before I start shouting at them, have any of you ever noticed difference with the water pump impellers? And does this problem ring any bells for anyone? Could I have received the wrong water pump by mistake? (The box was clearly labelled as rebuild 86 for 89 and S2) Regards, Guillaume Field

I have heard when replacing the water pump there is an upgrade recomended. So the difference may be correct.

this changed in 89 (it's the big bore block) and has the same part number as the S2 3.0L water pump
