Any suggestions on 944/car transportation

Has anyone ever transported a 944/car in an open trailer and put painter tape on the sides to help protect it?

My only trailer use has been with a Uhaul and towed just about everything on one from my 912, M3, and 944, and a bunch of others. I find the uhaul is wide enough to provide good coverage. I tugged the M3 and 912 from VA to Washington State. Make sure the car is clean, and I don't see any issue with doing it if it makes you feel better.

I am being told the 944 will sit in the lower belly in between my other 2 cars, sounds like I will be OK, someone said if i use painters tape, not to leave it on for more than a day or two

				Blue Tape

3M blue masking take is easily removed without issue after a couple of weeks. I'm using it to cover the gap on the separated rear hatch glass at the molding to block wind noise. I change it every two weeks with no residue and the car sits outside. Of greater concern is being transported on the lower level under other cars. When I had a car (not a Porsche) transported from KS to CA, there was an large oil stain on the hood. So the car above mine had a pretty good passive leak. As i recall the bottom level in an open transporter was cheaper then the top level, probably for that exact reason.

when I was younger it was common to use tow bars, Maybe they were made illegal or something? it seems rare to see one used now. i think we used to be able to rent them from Uhaul. sometimes I'd see them used by a big motorhome that took a little car along to use at the destination. as kids it was a cheaper alternative to calling a towtruck. now wit tow trucks it's sometimes a choice to have the car taken up on the deck or be towed from the back with the front wheels on the ground, steering wheel tied . of course long distance towing might not be great for the transaxle. the flatbeds seem to be more common now, I wonder if the newer cars are sensitive to that sort of towing, with two wheels down. with a car that's been sitting, stuck brakes can be an issue, but they normally carry the dolley wheels too.

This is what I use, the faring does a good job of keeping crap off the car, and the winch is strong enough to pull off a truck out of a mud hole so I am confident that it will drag one of our cars out. One big benefit of the trailer (besides the obvious) is if you have a car, without a tag, but Live in a city or town that requires any vehicle in your driveway to be registered, but the car is a project or track car, so not insured so obvious not tagged either, sitting on the tagged trailer solves that pesky issue.

Id also like to know. I have a Hyundai Santa Cruz that can tow 5,000 and am wondering if I need a dolly or if I can tow my 944 with a trailer. I believe most steel trailers (with the wooden boards) are around 2,500 lbs just by themselves, but interested if the aluminum trailers are lighter. I think my S2 is around 2,600 lbs give or take so Im right at the limit of what I can tow, assuming a 2500 lb trailer weight.

I'm not sure of the weight ratio, but I think whether or not the trailer has brakes is important. Perhaps it could be assumed that you would not use a trailer without it's own brakes for this purpose.

in 2019 i moved from CA to TN. i put my 944 onto a uhaul trailer and built a plywood box around the whole car to protect it from weather and prying eyes. it probably killed MPG somewhat but i was glad i had it during that texas hail storm... when i got to TN i turned all the plywood/2x4s etc into garage shelving that i still use.
