auto trans

I have found a really nice '88 944 with an auto trans. Was thinking about getting it for my wife cause she doesn't like my std trans car. Anyone have experience with the auto?

my son has a '78 924 w/auto. it runs great, shifts strong, but is a little slower than 5-speed. surprisingly, for a 3-speed the gear ratio's aren't all that bad... but a 5-speed is definitely a better performer and uses the engine's rpm's better.

im trying to contact this guy that does a modification on a manual trans...it is called easyclutch(clutcless shifting)....manual tranny that works like an automatic...kind of like a tiptronic manual tranny version..(like an airshift but not an airshift)...so if ur tired of shifting it manually u can use the easyclutch(he's been using it for over 3 yrs. now and never had a problem).......hope I get his response within this week.....my 0.02 cents

We have an 83 automatic and had to replace it,Instead of going with a stock audi/porsche the mechanic used a audi 5000 unit which fit with minor mods the cost was only $500 plus labour. The major worry is the flex plate have it checked out very well these are hard to find and new will run around $1000.If the car shakes like crazy at idle you know its shot.To replace it you must pull either the transmission or engine and slide back the torque tube.As for performance it isnt that great but for the prse you can get an automatic for its worth it in good shape.

Well they may be rare, but apparently some people are not too fond of them. There are a bunch of 944's on Ebay for sale and almost all of them are auto.

Well I am still selling my '85 944 Auto in white. It's got 74k miles on it and stored/garaged at all times. I tried starting it last weekend & the battery was dead due to winter storage. I was thinking of selling it for $2500. Let me know if you are interested. I am located in New York.

Thanks,
Fred
