Red face Oil Won't Circulate

I recently purchased a 944S with for next to nothing. After replacing the head and fixing some other minor problems now I have one thing holding me back. I can not get oil to circulate throught the engine. I do not want to just guess its the oil pump and spend a couple hundred dollars on that only to find out it didnt fix the problem. Any suggestions on how I could test it, or any other problems it could be. Thanks for all the help in advance guys.

What steps have you gone through to determine that there is no oil pressure?

Oil pressure gauge or???

Or are you implying that there is no oil feeding the head?

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

I have not hooked up an oil pressure guage. When put back together I poured oil on the head before trying to start it. I then started it, and it sounded horrible. Upon opening it back up I noticed that there is no oil reaching the head. I have not taken car to mechanic, and would rather not.

Did you disconnect the two wires at the oil pressure sending unit?

Take the spark plugs out and disconnect the wires at the coil. Spin the engine over till you see some pressure on the oil pressure gauge.

If there is some indication of pressure, usually about one bar (14 psi), then the oil pump is working.

If the oil pressure gauge pegs itself to 5 bars as soon as the key is turned on you have the two wires on the sending unit backwards.

If this is the case then you have the wrong gasket on the head or the cams are not in alignment or the lifters have colapsed (or not pumped up because of the wrong or misaligned head gasket).

Pull the spark plugs, disconnect the injectors, insure there is sufficient oil in the pan, and then use the starter to turn the engine over. You should get oil pressure within a very few seconds. If you do not get oil pressure, check the wires to the oil pressure sender.

If the system checks out electrically, check the troque on the crank bolt.
