Parking button won’t release
Purchased a ‘90S2 Cab 30 days ago and had a slight issue with the parking brake button sticking when pulled to a higher position. Had the car gone thru by my mechanic (very reputable) and identified that all my brakes needed replaced, 2 weeks ago, to pass inspection.
Drove the car a little over last 2 weeks and yesterday came home and put the brake on but had to pull it up all the way for it to hold on the sloped driveway. Well, when I went to put it in the garage, the brake button would not depress. Even used clamps to try to depress and it wouldn’t. Was able to drive to garage with brake on anyway, stalled when I got it in. Is there a way to release the button a different way? Or do I have to jack it up, remove wheels and rotor to release the brake? If so, how do I do that? Checked Clark’s but nothing related to that issue. Thanks. |

Pull up on the handle while depressing the button, in order to take some of the load off the latching mechanism?
If that doesn't work, then someone may have not put the button setup in the handle correctly. There is a nylon washer that needs to go in there. Try unscrewing the button some and try again. Good luck.

Thanks KD, the handle is at the highest point and won’t depress. I’ll try to unscrew the button. Is there anything that would loosen the handle maybe to release?

Take the seat out and you should be able to figure something out.

I had this same problem, I don't remember how it got fixed as I changed all the parking brake shoes and basically reset the system. The issue was that if I pulled the brake lever to the upmost position (brake was very weak before), the release button would lock up. To release it I had to pull the lever upward and push the release button as hard as I could. It really took extreme strenght to push it. My dad pushed the button as hard as he could while I yanked the lever up and we managed to release it.

I think the problem is that the brake is being pulled to hard or is adjusted a bit too loose..
some cars used rear drums for the ebrake, I think the porsche used separate brake shoes just for the E brake, volvo did too. at least in cars of the same era. I guess it wasn't easy to design a system that used hydraulic pressure to hold disk pads on. Ive been driving a vehicle with an automatic so it has "park", I don't know why it was built with such silly duplication ;-) these unnecessary luxury "features" ! I do find it handy when the brakes start scraping, then I can just use the E-brake to bide a week or two to get new pads in without rotor damage ;-) Last edited by Monkey Wrench; 05-29-2024 at 02:05 PM.. |
