It's an interesting idea, but I think probably it would be more sensible to just buy a 968, unless you can do all the work yourself.

But the engine is basically the same...not much would have to be done right?

I have no idea how hard it would be. I'm sure it's possible though. It would be pretty cool. Sorta like an S2 but better.

In a recent issue of "Excellence" there was a story on how to put a S2 engine in a 944S. I believe the same swap would work on a standard 944. Good luck!

This upgrade would be pretty expensive to perform, considering nothing is interchangable between an 8v 944 NA engine, to a 16v 968 NA engine. NADA! You've got to get all the wiring, computer controls, etc, etc, etc...

It's do-able, but doesn't make sense, unless you get the complete 968 engine and all it's accessories for next to nothing (ain't gonna happen). Well, to justify it, I think you'd already need a new engine in the 44 to start with! Labor would cost a lot too, but as far as the big stuff bolting up, there won't be a problem.

So yes, easier than the usual engine swap, but could turn out way too expensive/hard for somebody with little experiance.

Raf,
the total production run of the 968 turbos were 11 or 12. I remember wanting to buy one a year ago and found one in germany that had been raced. It had 79k kilometers and looked like it had been driven in the desert, and hit a couple times. Asking price was a meare 40k + shipping.
