Hi All-
I was wondering if anyone can answer a wheel fit-ment problem, as I am getting different answer's. I have an 87 944S, and I would love to put the '86 944 Turbo phone dials on, to get that nifty negative offset and "dished lip" on the rear wheels. I've heard from a couple of people that Porsche went to a positive offset rear wheel for a reason (on both the N/A cars and turbo cars), as the rear suspension now has a wider track on '87+ cars? I know somebody can solve this! Thanks!! JS |

There are some aftermarket (Asian imports) rims that look like high end Porsche rims that have workable offsets.
Check out the picture I just loaded to my profile page. The rims on the red (current) 944 are imports. As such the manufacturer was able to cast and machine them with the correct offsets and width to fit under the 83 944 with out rubbing. 9" back, 7 1/2" front.

The cars with anti-lock brakes have the later offset. Late wheels will fit an early car with spacers, but putting early wheels on an '87 will leave them sticking out the fenders. Looks ugly, rubs bad.
I once put the Fikse's from the 911 on the 944S2, and while the car looked great directly from the side, the tires stuck out of the fenders about an inch. Last edited by Dantilla; 06-23-2003 at 11:44 AM.. |

Jeff, they say that you can put late offset wheels onto an early offset car with spacers, but not the other way around. The '86 wheels have a negative offset of 23.3mm, while the late offset 87+ have a negative offset of 52.3mm. This is in regards to the 16" 951 phone dial wheels. What you want to do will push the wheel out by about an inch. I have not played with '86 951 wheels, but with relative to my stock '86 15", I think the rubber might be right under the fender, or it might stick out a bit.
