Help....stupid FAN

Today I get in my car after work, and no power! The battery is dead. After a jump start and a ride home I goto my car to leave to pick up my fiance and the fan is STILL running. I am sure this is what caused the battery to die. It was 30-45 mins later and is now almost an hour and the fan isn't off yet. Is there any suggstions to the problem? Or even a temp solution like a fuse I can yank till it's fixed. Thanks ppl.

I used to own a later model 944 and had the same problem. The solution was a temperature fan switch. The switch activates the fan, even after the engine is shut off, to cool down the engine. A defunct switch will keep the fan running until your battery is dead. You can pick up a switch through Performance Products for $17.00. Good luck!

Where is the switch? Is there a way to check it? Or at least unhook it so it doesn't kill my battery until I get a new one? Thanks!

The switch is directly below the upper hose on the radiator...its probably stuck closed. Just un plug it until you replace it....keep an eye on your temp tho...depending on the temp where your at, that might not be the best solution...HTH

Well...I live in Idaho, and the temps have been 50 at the highest...mostly under 30 though.

or maybe take out your fan relay temporarily, as long as nothing else is run off that circuit...

Send a message via ICQ to porscheboi928s/c944t/n

I had the same problem a few months ago. It was a bad temp switch on the radiator. While I waited to recieve the new switch I manually shut odd the fan via the fuse. Right before I turned off the car, I removed the fuse for the fan and before I started the car I replaced the fuse. Since the thermostat is closed during warmup, the fan won't cause engine warmup to take a longer time. The only thing it does is cause a little more ware on the fan motor.

To replace the switch, you have to remove the fan motors and drain the coolant partially. I think you can do it without removing the radiator. I removed the radiator so I can properly torque the new switch in. That is essential. If you strip the threads, you are buying a new radiator. Trust me. I learned the hard way. If you want specifics on my procedure, send me an e-mail... divezic@hotmail.com

You could also pull the wire off each fan motor. It's a plug.

This problem is with any temp. switch, if this happens on the road , use a swrew driver or anything that can be placed on the sensor and give it rap . This will free the welded contacts for a temporary fix .

Well I'm taking fuses out for a temp fix. I also found a blown fuse I could have sworn I checked when I first got the car. It was blown and THATS WHY NONE!!! of my interior lights would work and my clock would die when I opened the door. I feel dumb =P. Anyways...I ordered the part from Pelican. Hrmm..they charge too much in shipping. 9 bux for a little part like that...anyways. Thanks for the help...now if I can just install it afterwords
