Anyone ever seen this?

A little OT, but worth the read. Fairly interesting. Rotary valve heads...

That looks pretty cool.

I just don't understand why higher compression can be used without detonation. Perhaps you can shape a cylinder head much differently for better combustion, not sure though. I understand less mass in the valve train [and of course less moving parts] which is good for high RPM's and more power.

Cool stuff.

I believe the no detonation at higher compression is more related to the lower operating temperature of the rotary valve engine than the compression factor.

Looks like it would wear out way to fast. The faces for the rotary valves would have to stay clean and we all know that wouldnt happen, Its a good idea but I dont think it would last, or seal as good.

yea i read that thing before. i heard something not so great about them but i cant remember what it was

Apparently, they had problems in the past sealing the valves, but have since come up with a compound that lasts. Not a bad idea, yeah, but implementing it into the auto industry would be tough.
