No fire to plugs on 1983 944

1983 944 cranks, but will not start- What part might be the problem and which one do I replace first. I think the previous owner had replaced the distributor, but car still will not start. Maybe its the ECM or whatever it is called. Anybody got any advice for me to find the problem? Thanks

not to be condescending but is there gas in it? thats always the first thing to check.
what all have you checked? you say its not getting spark? is the wire from the coil to the distributor sparking?
and are you sure its getting fuel?

Check and see if the coil is getting power, if it is and the plugs are not sparking it could be the flywheel sensors. Mine went bad a month ago, I had no spark. You can check those with a volt meter, the plugs are on the back of the engine, there are 2 of them one on top of the other.
It could also be the dme relay, if you turn your car over can you hear the fuel pump run?

DME relay, check for 12v at the auxillary air regulator plug.
Fuel pressure regulator, unplug one injector, if it starts replace the regulator, or crank sensors, check for 900 ohms at the connectors, they should both be the same.

The rotor button up under the distributor cap could be bad if the coil is firing. Some have that black stuff in them & it can go bad. I think it should ohm out about 1 to 1.5K. Also the screw holding it could have come loose or the distributor cap not being installed quite right, & slipped & broke the rotor.

Unplug the computer under the steering column and plug it back in a couple times. Mine did this a while back. Dirty contacts on computer plug. Worth a try. BTW mine slipped the belt again today. Anyone want a good roller for a grand???

Seen the coil wire corrode on the inside at the coil and dist cap and pull out a bit. Still was tight in the weather boot but had a sufficent gap to stop any spark.

DME relay is usually the culprit here. Provides voltage to the injectors and the DME brain when the key is turned on. Kicks over the fuel pump when you crank the engine. Actually the ignition switch sends votage to the starter and a terminal on the DME brain at the same time.

The coil gets it's voltage directly from the ignition switch so the DME relay could be bad or good.

The trick of checking for voltage at the aux air regulator is good because the same voltage goes to the fuel pump. Also a fuse between the relay and the fuel pump.

Also some have put the plugs back on the wrong sensors when testing them.

Then this could be a broken timing belt too.
