As I recall that 928 is from like Sweden or something. They converted it into a pick-up truck back because the insurance rates were like 200% higher on cars versus trucks.

People! The 928 Pickup (yes I know it's ugly) is a result the car taxes we have here in Denmark. It's danish and has nothing to do with insurance rates.
You see here in Denmark we have to pay 25% VAT and 180% socalled "registration tax" for our cars. This triples the cars' prices!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() However cars meant for transporting goods (Vans, Pickups, trucks etc.) can be registered on yellow license plates at a MUCH MUCH lower tax. So what do you do? You cheat the unfair and outrageous tax system and rebuild 928s to be taxed as "yellow plate" cars. And you can in fact get a hardtop to make the 928 pickup look like a regular 928 (improves the looks a lot). The dealer who did these rebuilds also ripped out the rear seats of 944s to "make them" Vans(who needs the rear seats anyway). Furthermore they did a BMW 750i L pickup and several Mercedes 560 SEL and 600 SEL pickups!!! Other dealers saw this and started building Chevrolet Camaro pickups. Until....you guessed it: The gap in the legislation was closed. No more fun cars rebuilt to "yellow plates". BTW the dealer who did the 928s, Mercs etc. is at: www.porchecentrum.dk In Sweden and Germany there is no such thing as "registration tax"... |
