If you do an engine swap put a LT1 in it. The Chevy engine is perfect and many people have done it. There is also lots of documentation on it and kits you can buy. Its about 5k to do the whole conversion. And for horse ...well depends on what ur oging to do to the engine...i bet you can get it up to 650 hp ...but im sure 350 would be more your style.

Buy a few extra transmissions too.

What do people usually do for a tranny when swapping in a LT1 engine?? Will a 928 trannt fit in the rear of a 944???

How about putting a rebuilt 87 2.5L in? Plenty of documentation on that as well.

I believe that I read on renegadehybrid.com that you can use a 951 tranny and it is capable of supporting the horsepower. Personally, as a former Camaro fan I'd go for the LS1 instead.

the ls1 wont fit.
the lt1 will please most hp/torque mongers.
and either trans but the 951 has a better ratio.
my 944/lt1 has been rolling for about 2 yrs and have not broken a single trans, the next step is installing the powerhausII torque-bias diff (new $900). it just spins the hell out of 1 tire when im at the a x and looks silly, (althou quite fast when controlled ).

I'm curious to know what stops the LS1 from going that doesn't stop the LT1. I know there are a few differences with the engines, but right this moment I can't think of anything that would be that different.

different crankcase, it might fit but the mounts are different, wont fit the renegade hybrid kit.

Thanks. I didn't think about that.
