i think i am going to sell my car...

Yup, after three long years I think its finally time to get a different car. I will really miss it, not all the headaches though. I don't think I will get much for it at all. It is probably a better parts car than anything else unless someone wants a big project that has plenty of money.

Does anyone know the price range for a running '83 944 that needs body/interior work? It runs alright but I think it needs a new fuel pump. State inspection is good until next April. It needs new struts/shocks all around. Fog lights don't work, rear hatch doesn't open quite right. Water leaks into the car at the battery tray and around rear hatch. Needs tires all around. Probably could use tie-rods too. The car looks good if you stand at the right angle Its still a fun car none-the-less. Basically its a POS, but I had so many good times in it.

What do you think its worth?

Anyone looking for a car?

Now, on a side note. I'm going to look at a 2000 Eclipse GT, V6, 5 speed with 55k miles on it. Does anyone know of any reliablilty issues with the latest generation eclipses? Anyone have any experience with them? They are asking $11995. Sound fair?

I just wish someone would pull out in front of me or something...I would forget to stop...thats the easy way to get rid of the car...

Sorry to hear of your troubles Stray. If the body doesn't need any major panel replacment/serious paint defects, try listing it for $2,000 and take whatever you're comfortable with.

Does this sound too high/low for a '83 in the shape his is in???

Just a post to get the ball rolling.

Sounds like a good candidate for a track car....I hope someone grabs it.

Oh, and the Eclipse- that sounds like a good price. I'd rather have a used Prelude, Integra, or VW GTi, but the Eclipse is still pretty decent. The whole 2Fast2Furious poster car image kinda turns me off though. Here's an Idea- $11-12K will get you a good condition 951 or 944S2. Or an excellent n/a and still have money left over for repairs. Yesss, that's what I'd do.

Either way, best of luck, and you better still hang around here

I don't really want a honda or integra too many ricers around with those. I don't like GTi's either. I'm not worried about 2fast2furious because most of the "hooked up" eclipses are the last generation ones. I'm not gonna "hook" mine up at all. Maybe rims because I can get them for the cost of water.

I would love to get another Porsche but it just isn't practical at this time in my life.

Of course I'll be around.

But you only live once my friend!

I like stupenal's idea of an M3. There's a '95 in the local autotrader right now for $13K. Or for something more practical, a 3-series sedan or Audi A4 quattro is nice. An A4 1.8T is a fun car, the quattro awd is very nice to have.

I wouldn't knock a GTI....A nice 96-98 GTI VR6 could be had for less than 10k, easily.....That is what I'm looking at next after this 944......

Well, I went out looking for cars today. So far I test drove an '98 Audi A4 1.8T quattro. It has 55k miles and they are asking 12995. The car drove great and was really fun to drive with the "tiptronic" transmission. The car is a beuatiful blue with matching blue interior. The ONLY problem with it is there was a light that was on. It was a little picture of whoknowswhat and it said check. I don't know if it were the check engine light or what but if I decide that I want the car I am going to make sure they take care of it.

I went to look at the eclicpse that I found but it already sold. They had a '98 3-series BMW in silver. They were asking 12900. It was a 5-speed. It had 92k miles But by looking at the interior you would think it were brand new. The car was defiantly quicker than the A4 but it kinda felt like the clutch slipped when I would ship. I would love to have the Bimmer but the high miles are going to keep me away from it. And I really love the color of that A4.

I think I am going to stick with a German car, most likely an Audi because I want that Quattro.

What do you guys think?

I'm sure they are great cars, but I just don't like hatchbacks.

I am tired of having an old Porsche for a daily driver. Give me two years to get back in to the saddle of a Pcar.

My Audi A6 has a weird looking check engine light. That's probably the same light you're looking at in the A4. On mine, its a little orange deformed rectangle-looking light, with a line across it I believe.

Oh, and the quattro rocks in winter, assuming it has a decent set of tires. The 5-speed A4 feels quite a bit faster than the tiptronic, althought the tiptronic works very well in its own right. And I think Audi interiors are very well-designed, better than the competition at BMW. BMWs will be more fun to drive on dry roads, but since you're in PA, I think the Audi would make a very good daily driver. Last winter, I had to be called upon to shuttle the family around in the Audi, because our Bimmer and other cars could not make it up our steep driveway when there was snow and ice on the ground.

Here's my gripe about audis, especially the A4 1.8T in automatic - its dog slow. I mean, its slow. And its puny as hell inside. The styling is decent, doesn't compare to the 3 series. And electrical problems - oh man, electrical problems. The resemblence inside to VW is just too much, I couldn't ever pay the extra premium for quattro and audi badge. However, Audi did a fine job with the A6, but I'd still rather have a 5 series instead.

Just get a 95 OBDI M3, you can get one with decent mileage for 15k, easily. Very very mod friendly compared to a 944, and reliable like no other. It was named the best handling car too. No other car combines comfort, luxury, handling, power, styling, and class like a BMW M3. Aftermarket support is insane too! There are lots of former 944 owners who have jumped ship to bmw. I know stuttgart951 (owned a beautiful black 951 with a nice front lip) has a 330i. Geo over at rennlist (with the 944 ITS race car) owns a e46 328. Another guy who doesnt post owns a 500rwhp 951 and an e36 M3.

As for mileage - don't worry about it, BMWs can go a very very long time. Preventive maintenance isn't a headache either. The seats in an M3 are also a lot more comfortable than the Audi A4. It feels like rocks in the A4.
