Lucas Oil Stabilizer....good or bad

What do you guys think about the Lucas Oil Stabilizer stuff? It looks realy cool and I've never heard a bad thing about it.

I sell it all the time,I use it in the girlfreinds car,but I wouldn't use it in the p-car. Read your owners manual,it says "Do Not Use Oil Additives".
So I don't.....

It causes aeration. Rather severely actually.

Aaron

EDIT: I should clarify. It doesn't "cause" aeration per-se, but it does make the oil much more susceptable to aeration. Oil treated with Lucas oil stabiliser will froth more readily than normal oil.

Has anyone used valve medic or anything like that to quiet lifters? Mine are slightly noisy, though my buddy (p-car mechanic) and his co-workers said it was not that bad, but down the road may want to change em. SO, I was just wondering if I could use something like that, huh?

I have used the Lucas transmission treatment in the 95 Mazda with good results. I have never used the oil stablizer though.

By the time a lifter is making noise, it's worn. Nothing can un-wear a part. You can mask the problem with an additive but the only cure is to replace the noisy lifters.

Yeah, so I was told. If i could quiet them for a little bit longer, though, that would be good. However, when I get the appended income tax returns (child tax credit that recently passed congress), I will buy all the lifters and replace them....along with the tie rod ends and I should be a happy camper...

I might even replace the struts, just because they look original and are a tad stiff....any recomendations on struts? Just good enough for the public roads; no need to be tempted into getting more tickets!

"A tad stiff" isn't stiff enough!

Oops! I'm pretty biased since my car spends quite a bit of time on the track.

Hey, what I mean by a tad stiff is that they do not compress much and I think they are just plain old and worn out. I did replace the rear shocks not too long ago and noticed he rear behaves much better now......it's the struts turn.

I'm for stiff over soft...but 'working' stiff is different than 'non-working' stiff.....if you know what I mean.

In that case, you might want to try something like Marvel Mystery Oil. It shouldn't be harmful to anything else in the engine, though it's worth noting that Porsche does recommend against oil additives.

Love Marvel. I use it in my fuel & crank case. Used in 85.5 944 2.5, 66 lemans 428-390hp, 78 TA WS6 400, 96 jeep cherokee 4.0 205,000mi running like new, 89 Honda Prelude. I add about 3-4 oz to 5 qt. oil every other change. Keeps injectors & carbs. lubricated & clean. Add about 8-10 oz per 10gal. On about every other tank. Marvel may be a no no in the 944 but I haven't had any probs.

Marvel has been around too long and is too well-respected to be a no-no. I'm pretty sure that Porsche's blanket caution against addatives is because they don't want someone pouring PTFE (teflon) into an engine. PTFE is solid and it's been shown to clog oil passages since PTFE expands greatly with heat. My guess is that Porsche issued a blanket recommendation instead of testing all sorts of addatives.
