Unhappy 'Tis Gone

This morning on my way to work, i was heading downhill and was going into a turn. Doing about 50mph i press the brakes and the brakes locked. I skidded to the right, went through some turn arrows and hit a telephone pole head on.

I'm fine, most was a really bad bruise on my collar from the seatbelt, other injury was to my right arm from hitting the steering wheel.

Now the big question... What to do with the car? I've checked online and the closest dismantler specifically for porsches is in LA, and it's pretty much totalled. I was thinking part it out, but what's worth parting out? Everything from the cab back is okay, everything up front is obliterated. Suggestions always apprecieated.

Glad your OK...sorry to hear about the car. I would agree with parting it out if you have the space and time.

Bus, here i come!

I also have decided to part out the car. I cruised ebay and low and behold... i might be able to get as much if not more money from parting it out than just to scrap it.

Very sorry to hear. Most important thing by far is that you are OK more or less. Best of luck parting the car out. Now time for that 951

Alright, come monday i should be in good enough condition to start ripping stuff apart. I had no coverage on the car since it would cost MORE than the car itself.

What exactly should i go for? I've got brand new rotors on the rear so i'll yank those... What parts are worth the effort?

technically, everything that's not broken and still serviceable is "worth it" as far as parting it out is concerned. What you could do is list it in the paper (or wherever) and strip things oof the car as people ask for them. Saves a lot of work and you'll know what's in demand.

glad to hear you're ok.

What I want to know is how your brakes "locked up."

That seems strange and a bit troublesome.

I still thik it would have been easier on you to leave the car intact and strip parts off as people wanted to buy them. Who knows, someone might come forward to purchase the whole car.

Cut off the front and pull the engine. It's worth about $500. Also the 83 has the same forged rods as the tubos. Lots stronger than the cast rods used in the later 944's.

Don't forget the instruments and the center AC/air cluster controls.

If you can get to them pull the window motors and regulators (if not bent). The window motors can be replaced sperate from the mechanics (regulators).

Also the mechanical (non-electric) sunroof system including the car mounted hardware is asked for by those wanting to replace their electrics.

the most i'm going to get with the wheels, engine and transmission still on the car, is about $115 from a local. This leaves me with pulling EVERYTHING of value (down to rear half-shafts) and then having the corpse with no wheels hauled away for $25 out-of-pocket.

Does anyone know of any places in the Riverside area that can give more than $200 for the corpse?

Brando, is there some type of legal reason or something as to why you have to tow the car away? I wouldn't mind parking it on my driveway, stripping parts and selling them on ebay for probably more than the $115 they're giving you. Plus, I'd like to get some experience with what's inside without worrying about breaking anything. BTW, I live in Rowland Heights, which, if you don't know, is about halfway between downtown LA and Riverside. Lemme know on what you plan on doing.

Pull the engine and the transmission. They are worth about $500 each in running condition!

You can drop the whole mess down just as easy as going piece by piece.

No, there is no one that will give you money for a car. Even a 944. I had to pay $100 to get a shell hauled away.

If you don't want the transmission let me know and I'll come out and pull it.
