82-924 clutch removal-problems
I am in the process of replacing the clutch on my newly purchased 1982 924. Things were proceeding reasonably well until I attempted to slide the transmission back to access the clutch (following directions in Haynes). The trans will move back until it hits the sheetmetal of the pocket for the spare tire, about 40 mm. The book says, and it looks like they are right, that we need about 85 mm
in order to remove the clutch. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to remove the transmission completely in order to change the clutch? You guys have been very helpful so far, any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Jon Aborn |

You will have to drop the trans to move it back far enough to remove the clutch... Sorry.. |

Ask Neal! but if he tells you to beat the spare wheelwell with a hammer, ask one of us first.
 Yes, the trans has to come out. Slide everything back where it goes, and slide the driveshaft/trans input shaft coupler back onto the input shaft of the trans axle (or is it onto the driveshaft?). Then move ONLY the trans back enough to clear the driveshaft, then straight down. Then slide the torque tube back, and you should be good from there. |

There should be some protocol,like " the doctor is in(please Dr. Porsche), or," the answer man" or for some suspension stuff ,I go to the Pelican- MAN, the suspension MAN ( 1.2G's). My handle shouldn't be trans removal or what you should not do.

Hey Jon, here's another tip from recent experience. If the throw-out/release lever pin does not come out easily enough, go rent/make a slide hammer.
