Parking brake shoes springs
1988, base model.
Replacing the parking brake shoes and I'm having a hard time knowing if the front hold down spring are installed properly. The ones towards the rear of the car have an easy way to inspect to see if the hook is engaged into the little divit. Basically i used an inspection mirror and can see it from behind. For the springs towards the front of the car, I can't tell if the spring is engaged and the hook is in the right spot. There is a hole, which I assume is to see if the spring is in the right spot, but I can't see anything. How do you know if the spring hook in in the little hole/divit? |

Yes, the front springs are hard to install and verify the proper installation.
What you need to do is to observe the relationship between the springs "head" (where you stick your tool, screwdriver or whatever) and the hook. If I'm not mistaken, you have to turn it 90 degrees, but I don't remember which way, clockwise or counterclockwise. I spent some time figuring this out, when I serviced the rear brakes. When I acquired my 924, the rear brakes dragged, causing noise. After disassembling the rear brakes, I noticed that either left of right brake shoe on each wheel were "tilted" - the hold-down springs were broken or missing. |
