Gauging interest: Late 944 Cruise Control Module Repair?

So I think that I have this Cruise Control Module repair thing figured out, and I was wondering what kind of interest is out there for offering this as some kind of service. This is only for the 85.5 and up cars, CC Module part number 944.617.132.00, as that is the only one I can test in my car.

From what I can tell, based upon a sample size of 5, most of these electronic modules can be fixed, with a couple hours worth of work and quite a bit of testing.

How many people are interested in having their CC modules refurbished, for something like $75-$100, with a core charge? Sure beats buying a new one at $750, and trying the used module roulette, where you will find 90% of the ones out there also do not work.

Right now I am looking for a handful of bad units for some more testing on, to make sure that I know what the heck I am getting into before committing to this.

Who has some units laying around that they would be willing to ship to Phoenix? I will take those units and go through them and see if I can make them work. I am thinking that 70-90% of them are salvageable. If I am successful, repair costs will be minimal, say $20 for helping me.

PM me if interested, and reply below if you would be interested in this type of service....

Cheers, Keith

Dude.....I’m so in. I have my oringinal I swapped out with new capacitors to no avail and another slightly order unit that is stock.
I’d like to fix my oringinal from my 91 S2 and confirm if the older unit works.

I finally got a chance to install my repaired cruise control computer tonight. OMG, Porsche designed a great system! It works as well as the cruise in any of today’s cars. I’ve had multiple 944’s over 20+ years, and none of the cruise controls ever worked well. I just thought that it was imperfect 1980’s technology. But, after Keith repaired my computer, it’s perfect! It engages so smoothly and it actually holds a steady speed. Needless to say, I’m very happy.

If you want a working cruise control, you should definitely pay for this service. It’s well worth it.

This is on my list

It will be some time

87 944 NA has a low profile box next to the drivers left leg - is that the part I remove? Can it be removed without consequences besides not having CC?

What about the motor in the engine bay? The one that runs if the key is on and sounds like crackling but it’s really just wobbly gears inside?

Silver box. That’s the computer. You can drive the car without it.

I've probably got 6 or 7 of these. Could test them to see which ones aren't working...

Bill, I got yours working as well. Sent you a PM.

So far 3 out of 4 are successfully repaired.

The special deal is now over. Thanks for helping me to figure this out.

Michael, I have a couple more things to try on yours before I give up.

I was wondering if my unit was bad or if switch contacts were bad. My unit works well infrequently. Most times the stalk switch accomplishes nothing. lately it will turn on but only for as long as I hold the stalk into the turn-on position and then it accelerates. Is this sort of behavior indicative of a bad unit or a switching problem?
