still running hot answer
Well I finally found my problem
You know that little bracket that holds the top radiator hose out of the way from the air conditioner pump. Well it also happens to hold the hose in a position that the bleeder valve is the highest point. Well a previous owner modifyed this bracket (you know the one that holds the airbox in place) which changed the high point about 1 inch forward thus makeing it impossible to bleed correctly. I only found this asI was leaning over to look at the heater valve to make shure it was open. Ilent on the hose and was rewarded with a big burp and a little bit of hot water over my arm (ouch). But this showed me the light and all is good the gage still reads half way but it dose not move unless in heavy traffic and the fan comes on halfway between second and third marks. So to all those out there who gave their input I say a big THANX. And say there is a god out there.

Congrads.....
just a note. My 83 had the housing that connects the upper rad hose to the block replace with a newer one that has the built in bleeder. Very nice BUT bleeding tends to drip (or pour) coolent into the injector/plug area. If you are careful this is a good mod. When I swapped the cooling fan thermoswitch for a lower temp model ($12us) it made my fan come on at the halfway point instead of the 3/4. BIG improvement. When I am brave enough I will replace the thermostat with a maching lower temp that is supposed to make another big difference. Just some thoughts.
