Warn Alternator??

84 944

Under any electrical load car looses power. More so than normal. Something as simple as running the car with Park/Fog lights decreases HP by about 10.

At night. Running headlights and maybe the radio, fan kicks on and lights brighten and dim until fan stops. The car just about stalls.

I cleaned all grounds, cleaned up the terminals. The belts are tight.

I would hate to spend $200 on an item not needed.

New to boards :)

Thanks
Sabyre

The alternator has a voltage regulator attached.

Remove it and match it up to a new one at the parts store. Cheap money usually $20. If it helps great. if not well, nothing ventured nothing gained.

10,000 watt stereo systems have a tendency to stall most any car.

Clean the grounds from the engine to the chassis too.

Have you read the Haynes manual check up.You should have close to 12v at battery engine not running, and 14 to 15V running otherwise brushes or regulator probably going or gone. Have just had mine replaced yesterday and had the comutator skimmed by the auto electrician as it had worn oval and one brush hardly existant. Save some bucks if you take the alternator out yourself then have auto electrician skim comm and test.
