Post My car vibrates at idle

Well whenever i turn the car on or stop at a stop light i hear these little vibrations....my mirror starts vibrating and i can here my dash rubbing up against something when vibrating. THe vibration is not to bad and once i put the accelerator on just lightly it stops vibrating....... Is my problem Engine mounts?

check your idle rpm too, could be too low.

If a car is able to run at low rpms and not stall, that means one thing:
change your cam

The 924 cam is ridiculous, my car can run at like 300 rpm.

Too bad they don't make good cams, a grind isn't enough.

If the vibration goes away ~1200 rpm, it is most likely the engine mounts...the old style engine mounts were hydromounts...which would leak the fuild and then your engine can ground out agains the crossmember, which can cause vibration in the rest of the car...you might also notice some excessive harshness over certain road inputs because the engine is very heavy and when it is jossled around without isolation, you will feel it...

sounds like you have already noticed that the vibration goes away when you give it a little throttle...next time you are in the car, see if it goes away ~1200 rpm

my car (85.5 951) had the same problem...after I replaced the engine mounts, I noticed that the vibration went completely away, and the ride was also a bit more civilized...

good luck

Also check to see if your idle screw is there! Mine has been gone and I just replaced it, and no more vibration at idle! I had the exact same problem. Might be a cheaper fix =)

Also keep in mind that these cars will SHAKE no matter what. When I first got my auto it had a broken mout shook like crasy at idle. Now with 2 new mounts I still has some jitter at idle @900rpm. I swear it becomes smooth as silk if I bump it up to 901rpm's. Just something I live with. I wish Porsche made the 944 a 5 cyl.
