Smile intermitten fuel gauge

guy's.when i start my car and noticed that sometimes the ful gauges works and sometimes not..i've seen where someone on the board says you can not use volt meters to trouble shoot wire problems..where would i begin? i was thinking of just using continuity meter to check for opens.or am i goin about this wrong???thanx

You can use volt meters. It's just that a digital one has a far higher impedence and will not affect low voltage readings. Digital is better. I used an analogue one for years and solved a lot of problems with it.
