transaxle removal - cannot rotate engine/no clutch
 

For the coupler sleeve bolts, what alternate method could be used? The one I'll be pulling has the clutch pedal stuck to the floor so I know that's not going to help. I don't know if I have access to the crank bolt and/or will the engine rotate?

Can I just cut the coupler instead? I'm not worried about any peripheral damage, I just need to get it out. Can I just cut the shift rod at the transaxle end and not worry about the inside of the car or does that HAVE to be slid forward. That's not a big deal either way.

Assuming I can rotate the engine but not be able to lock it in gear, can I still remove the hex bolts or is it going to spin on me? I'm trying to think through all the contingencies before I get there.

1) You can use a large screwdriver or medium sized prybar to depress the clutch fork though the large hole (came with a rubber plug from the factory). With the clutch fork depressed, you should be able to turn the torque tube.

2) You can use a 24 mm socket on the front of the crankshaft to turn the engine clockwise. Yes, you will be able to remove the hex bolts and the coupler will stay in place. (Sorry, did not see that you cannot rotate the engine).

3) Cutting the coupler is not a viable option.

If the clutch is stuck to the floor and you can’t lock the drivetrain, you can still pull the coupler bolts by rotating the engine at the crank if you have access. If not, cutting the coupler is a perfectly workable last-resort option
