odometer problem - not gear related

My odometer has quit working with 600 miles on a new gear. It stopped 276 miles into a trip. It has only been reset with the car
at a stop since the car was replaced. I just pulled it out again and
found that all the gears are intact and move freely. I'm not sure how to go about trouble shooting the motor or electrical connections beyond checking for continuity. Any ideas? The speedometer is working correctly. Thanks.

The car is an 88 951.

sounds like the gear slipped of the pinion in the odometer.

When I opened it up, all the gears were where they are supposed to be. The worm gear is tight on the motor shaft, and if I spin the motor by hand, the odometer works fine.

place a drop of super glue on the pinion and position the gear- let dry- reassemble. voila- youre done.

Which one is the pinion? The gear on the motor or the gear driven by the gear on the motor? I've played around with them and I can't find a way to get them not to work. I'll try gluing it, though. Thanks.
