OT: Thinking of Selling my BMW to get a Porsche, NEED ADVICE!
Im 18 and I am going to Bentley College in the fall and I am going to sell my BMW (can't drive first year), put the money in the bank, and save up for a 944 or 951. The car I am thinking about seeling is my 1989 BMW 325i, 5-speed, tan interior, Delphin Gray exterior. It has 138,000 miles on the odometer but you would never know from the looks of the car. I need to decide whether to fix the few things wrong with my car or just sell the car at a possible loss. Now, the body is in perfect condition except for some rust under the passanger door and a few scratches which I am deciding whether to fix or not. Also, the e-brake needs to be fixed adn the AC doesnt work. The engine runs strong and is very powerful and the 5 speed shifts very well. The interior of the car is in perfect shape and you would not know that it is an 89.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If you could guess, how much would the car be worth to see with and without the things fixed. Thanks alot and I really am looking to get a 844 or a 951 as my next car. Thanks, -Ryan |

You'd be best off in an NA. The turbo's can be quite expensive on a limited budget. Finish college and then get the 951.
You can get into a 944 for as little as 2 grand- with cosmetics and some work required. If you have spare weekends and are familiar with a wrench you could build an amazing 944 in a year.

For around $5K you can get a damn good condition 944 n/a. A good condition car will cost you considerably less to maintain in the long run than a car which has been poorly maintained in the past. I paid a small premium for my car when I bought it because it was in perfect condition, and so far it has been very very dependable and cheap to maintain.

Ditto on the last, I'm 20, just bought am excellent one owner 1986 944 for 4500 to serve as a daily driver. Repairs are expensive, avoid them. There's alot of those "1000. deals" that aren't deals at all, they're wrecked and repaired crap.

i think you may be able to basically trade in the 325 for a 944. NADA lists it at around $3500, although NADA is off frequently. look around autotrader and ebay to see how much people in tyour area are asking. if you have a while to sell it you can just be patient and wait for someone whose willing to pay what you want (within reason)
and these guys are right, its cheaper and makes more sense to pay more for a well maintained car. i payed $3000 and it became a $4500 car within a matter of months, and all the problems are still not resolved
