I have a problem when trying to restart my early 85 944 once i have done any distance and the engine is hot. The car starts fine from cold but once the engine is hot i have to wait a long while for it to cool before it will start again. if i try to start it when the engine is still hot all that happens is you can hear the fuel pump whirring but the starter doesn't kick in. Is this a common fault? I thought it may be the starter solenoid heating up but before I start taking things apart I wonder if it was another 944 "classic" problem. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated also if repairs are going to destroy my Visa card I would also like to know.
Thanks |

Check your battery cables and grounds. When the cables corrode the resistence goes high and the car becomes hard to start. I just went through the same thing and ended up making new cables and the problem went away for a while. The starter did eventually have to be replaced though.
