What should I do first?
 

Well, my car is in desprate need of a paint job and wheels. The paint has a huge key mark on the drivers side, it was there before I bought it. There are a few small, small dents, not from me either. The front chin is all chipped and there is metal tape around the sunroof sealing it so it doesn't leak(from me http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/frown.gif ). My cookie cutters are looking awful from corrosion.

So, I want some ideas. Should I save to get it painted first or should I get new wheels or get mine refinished? I was thinking of either sending my wheels to www.transwheels.com or buying a new set from them. I would be getting a discount from them because the company I work for has an account with them. Has anyone had any experience with them before?

Tim, the cookie cutters look great with the rim part polished, and the center given the Blackfoot treatment.

I did it on my car, and it improved the appearance 100%. If you polish the rims, make sure you clearcoat them, or the brake dust will eat the aluminum, leaving pits in them.

Now for the real question. Can you get powdercoat in clear? When I do the other set of cookies I have, I'm going to powder coat them.

Blackfoot...care to elaborate on your custom treatment?

What did that wheel look like before?

it looked like a tsw hockenheim 17x8 wheel.

That looks good and all, but what about on cookie cutters, Should I paint the whole thing black or just redo the center?

That tire is so short, is that what all 17 inch wheels have on them now?

That rustoleum is great paint, but I wonder how it will hold up under the heat and dust of disc brakes??

if i recall correctly it's a 215/35/17 tire. it was on my rx-7 when i purchased it in seattle last year. not happy with both the low-profile or the low-traction those tires afforded.

heat is no problem. as for brake dust, i don't know. it took less than an hour per wheel. but i'm experienced with paint, so it may take a bit longer for others.

What about the whole rim getting powder coated black? Everything

i've heard powdercoating, like chroming, is a bit expensive. and believe it or not, i prefer a glossy or metallic black to the flat black that you get with powdercoating.
