Why Porsche is LEGENDARY!
Found an old newspaper clipping dated 9 july 1995:
" Porsche has made it to the Guiness Book of Records. The legendary German sports carmaker picked up a place in the book after a production model 993 carrera 4 completed a 100,000km endurance test. he car was put through its paces in a test designed to highlight its 4wd durability. The test run included: * A 24hr artic test at -35 deg celsius * A high-speed 24hr run on the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, USA * Driving over 24 alpine passes in 24 hrs in Europe * Covering 2000km at full speed on a race circuit in southern Italy, clocking an average251km/h including pitstops ( a record for 4ed vehicles) * A 24 hr run on a Porsche test track at Weissach, Germany. About a kilometre of the track is pitted with potholes and corrugation." I wish my 924 was this good! |

Several 944s, and 968s were endurance tested.
A 968 tip. was sent to africa, and up and down North America (alaska to mexico if I remember correctly), as well as other 100,000km (and longer) tests. A 944 S2 was used to cover the distance "from the moon to the earth", another 944 turbo was sent on a 100,000km test. Don't recall anything about a 924, or a base 944 at an endurance test, but a 924S was also sent out on a 100,000 test. Porsche recently had a Carrera 4 sent out, as well as two offroad Carrera 4s through some semi-rough terrain. (The "north rim" I think it was called). Porsche and endurance testing standard road cars is nothing new. PS: From the cars mentioned, within the course of the tough, and long drives, the only part I can remember that failed was a trunk release cable on the 968. No other major failures, I MAY be overlooking another minor failure though. Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver... |

I'm going to get fiberglass copies of a pair of front guards and front spoiler from a mates '83 944. I'm doing it through work. I shall call it Operation Beautification! |

Hey, I like 924s!!!
They're rear wheel drive vw sciroccos, but with more fun, and more of a proper feel. BTW, how come nobody puts 924 front fenders on 944s? (ok, nobody would but just go along with it) I think a 924/44 would look mean with the 44 rear, but 24 front fenders, sort of like the early 911 turbos... Ahmet, That would look cool... a 944 'wide body' BTW, While I do like the 944, I think its more 'in your face' while the 924 is nicely 'understated'

I just gotta say, I feel bad for the driver who had to take the 993 over 24 hours' worth of potholes! Damn, if that wouldn't drive me insane, I don't know what would...

Hello
There are no ugly Porsches, only tasteless onlookers. Porsche made allways very rigid tests in the early years they drove the cars themself and made some prizes. Later they let it do by others.Porsche was the first who investet in a proofing ground way back in the mid 20´s at Mercedes. But such procedures like are made buy skillfull drivers with fresh cars. Even mostly done by independend motorjournalists those people can "work" with an car. They will not missue the machine or do other stupid things. I remeber Testdriver complainig about the "auntie" test. They had to drive exact as a old lady in heavy trafic. It is hard to imagen how mutch concentration is needed to missclutch, missshift and flood the engine to selfdestructing vibrations. Today they use a roboter on a rolling street to avoid stressing the humanoid testers. Grüsse |

I was born in the 80's and have lived the majority of my life in the 90s. The 924 was predominantly a 1970s car. AS far as how it performs, I don't have a problem. I just don't like it's fenders much or the back window that doesn't have the spoiler. Oh and the circular lights on the fender. I love Porsche's cars. But to say that not being particularly fond of one makes me "tasteless" is ludicrous and means that someone is a little too die hard.
