Question low humming sound from rear of car...?

The sound is usually drowned out by the engine noise from the front but when I'm on a flat road crusing on a fixed gear at low (2-3k, only because the sound is drowned out by the engine at higher rpms, I'm sure it's not the exhaust from the engine working at the low rpm) I get this low humming sound (sorta like a "wooahow wooahow..."). I'm not sure if that's just the normal sound of the tires because of the contact with the ground or if it's something else (wheel bearings?) but I'd like to fix it if it is something wrong before it gets to something majorly bad.

Thanks,
swimmingly

Who let the dogs out. Hate it when I hear a strange noise, it usually means big bucks. Eliminate easy things like wheel bearings first, but think that does not sound like a dog howl from my experience, more the low humming sound you mentioned. Recently changed my Opel's and Toyota's back bearings for that. Also had 3 faulty Firestone Daytona tyres on the open where the rubber delaminated, which also caused a hum. Even had a blow out at about 60mph. Never buy Firestone again only Brigestone now.

Hm, lemme make sure I got this right before I just start ordering the wrong stuff. The rear wheel for a 1986 951 has only one wheel bearing (i.e. no inner/outer, just one?)?
