First off, I want to thank every member of this board. For the past four months I’ve been trying to muster DIY confidence by picking through your posts. Finally, I got the balls to replace my belts and ordered the necessary parts. Bottom line, I would never have been able to do this without your constant information and advice – thank you.
In order to give back to future newbs like myself, I thought a photo diary and step-by-step instructions might be useful. Maybe some more experienced members could give me some quick feedback on the following points: *Do you think detailed documentation of an amateur belt job would be valuable? (I know clarks-garage is a great reference but I’m talking about a detailed, photo intensive, all-in-one guide to belt replacement.) *If I make a detailed photo diary of a complete belt replacement, where should I post it? (Pelican tech articles, my own server, within the forum?) *Would anyone with solid belt experience be willing to edit a draft version of the web page(s) for quality control? On a side note, I have collected a lot of information and several books pertaining to 944 repairs. I have just about everything one would need with the exception of the factory workshop manuals. If someone has the ability and/or generosity to send/upload these manuals for me, it would be greatly appreciated. I would be willing to provide some incentive to those interested…$. (I would have bought the PDF versions off of EBAY but I don’t trust anyone who a) doesn’t work on 944’s, and b) can hardly write English.) I might be foolish to provide “yet another” belt guide, but I think there is need for a better resource. In any case, thanks again to all the knowledgeable 944 enthusiasts that made my attempts at DIY maintenance possible! ![]() ![]()

I can help you with the manuals as well. Send me a private message if you want a CD (and PET software as well).

Yes, that includes copying factory manuals and the PET CD. Regards, -Zoltan, Moderator.

WELCOME!
Yeh Ski, Post yer pics! I think that "second opinion" pics are great. One of the things I do before I tackle a tech job on the car is try to examine as many photo's/diagrams as possible. It is always nice to hear of others difficulties and success. Some things you will hear are really a bit#$ are really quite simple. Man, I freakin love digital photo technology! All of this WAS NOT possible 6-7 years ago. Mark

Thanks for the info everyone. Mr. Moderator has a point - if anyone has more info about locating specific resources please email me. I do not support copyright infringement, but when a college kid is faced with paying $250+ for a couple binders… I paid less than $50 for a comprehensive 528 page Bentley manual on my E30…
Anyone have ideas on how or where to post my web pages? I can simply slap up a crude text guide within the forum but would prefer creating my own pages with customized navigation and lots of pics. TCMdocs944, digi-cams have really changed the way we explain our ideas. I continually marvel at its usefulness… up until the point where I’m trying to take a picture with one hand while holding a greasy starter in the other!

Nice shot Dez! I'm especially impressed by the GSXR spotting, it's hard to see. The Yammy is actually an R1.

Porsche Copywrites
4 or 5 years ago when I first got on the internet, I ran accross a guy in Australia who had his 924t in a Maserati dealership to have an exhaust leak repaired. He wanted info on parts & putting it back together since the dealers bill for the whole job with all new gaskets, seals, & fasteners would be more than he paid for the car. He was thinking of paying what he owed for the teardown & fixing the car himself. I contacted PCNA, gave the story, & asked if I could make copies of copywrited material from the Workshop Manual & Parts & Ref Guide to send the boy. They said I could. While buying parts for my wife's car, a dealer parts manager told me I gave him the wrong part # for a ring gear. I told him PET said the number I gave him supercedes the old number. He said yes it did. I asked him if I was susposed to have & use PET. He said officialy no, but it was so helpful that the company kind of looked the other way. before I got PET, dealers have faxed me either PET or the old microfilm parts pages for me to verify what I wanted. Pelican themselves used to have & maybe still do electric diagrams from Workshop Manual & pages of the Parts PET or microfilm on this site. I think PCNA is generous with folks sharing their copywrited material but busts ass on somebody trying to go into business copying & selling it. I would say if you have a question, ask PCNA. I would bet Pelican did before they put the stuff on their site. PCNA sells cars to people who like the way they drive & the styling. They wouldn't sell so many if they had the resale value of a Yugo. Take that 84 944that's computer doesn't have a blink code to help when it's not running right or won't crank, prone to timing belt, water pump, oil & water mixing, & clutch problems. PCNA knows these are cars for DIY folks, so they cut us some slack. drew1

Thanks Blackfoot, nice 968 btw. I've recently seen a mint 968 cruising around in Bellingham, you drive up North much? The belt job looks pretty cake and I'm confident I can finish her off solo. Do you autoX or participate in PCA/SCCA events around the Seattle area? I'm itching to get involved in some form of autocross but don't know anybody currently involved. There's nothing worse than owning a car you haven’t fully learned to drive...
Thanks again for your offer
