Big wooden boxes
I have to go back to my mechanics place and get my old transmission. I didn't realize quite how large it would be, or how dirty.
So- where could I get a big-old wooden crate to put it in to get it home (where I will slowly take it apart and learn how transmissions work and rebuild it once I get service manuals and the guts to try it and the space...) |

Yeah, hydrolic is spelled wrong -- so what!

P.S. A local shipper like Roadway may have a pallet and crating service they use. Call around.

my favorite for trannys is the bottom roller piece of bread racks, often seen behind grocery stores, with a couple of cut to fit 2 by 12 wooden pieces. it makes them easy to roll under the bench, but can easily be rolled out when company comes over.

Get the book "The Mother Tongue". Can't remember the author. I love to take an english major and have them write tech manuals. Grammar, punctuation and spelling are impeccable but their grasp of the technical side is at 1st grade level. If it wasn't for spelling checkers I'd be back at 1st grade level too!

Yeah, to some extent, what Hugh said.
If these transmissions are anything like VW Bug trannys, which they are.. It takes special jigs and skills to rebuild them. If you are wanting a tranny to tinker with and learn to rebuild, just go find you some ordinairy run of the mill 5 speed rear wheel drive tranny. The only special tools you'll need then will be feeler gauges, and maybe a gear puller(big hammer usually works nicely though). Or you can find you a bug tranny to disect, at least those are a dime a dozen, hell, even I have 2 of those ![]()
