From 944 to 914?
Well, I started in the Porshe world with a handmedown 928, my grandfathers daily driver. I then swindled him out of a 944 that had fallen into mechanical dissrepair. Spent 3 months covered in grease and been loving it ever since. Well, I think I want to find another daily driver. I love my 944 but there is a million little things I need to fix and right now I just don't have the time. That and it's an automatic and it burns more gas than my 5spd 928 ever did.
I really have my eye on a 914. I guess what I am asking is are these things reliable? That is compared to my 944. And what is the cost comparison between the two for matience and so on? Thanks Ven |

A new 914 would be as, if not more reliable in comparison to a 944 I'm sure, but as old as they are, it all depends.
On a 914, make sure you do NOT get fuel injection! Less power, less reliablity, less tuning capability, etc. There's a fairly active 914 board here, articles about them are pretty common in excellence, and 911 & Porsche world, try to keep up. Lots of valuable info there. BTW: Your 944 shouldn't use anywhere near as much gas as your 928 did. Something is out of whack there. Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver... |

The 914 is not galvanized and rust is an issue. The rocker panels can look find from outside but reach up under and you'll find leaves, water, dirt, etc. Try for the 73' model and up to with the side shifter. Try looking at the 914 FAQ. I don't have web address for it, but its easy to find. I just about bought a 914, but the 944 was more practical for me and my situation.
