hello, my steering wheels starts to shake when i hit 60. Sometimes it stops, but only seems to do it at exactly 60. Someone told me that it could be motor nounts, what is it?

Start by getting your wheels re-balanced.

could be wheel alignment. if going for an alignment go for the all wheel align as it only costs a little more but makes the car drive straight. if balancing the wheels try to find a place that will do it with the wheels on the car as it will give a trus ballance with the rotors and all and not just the rims and tires. could be a seperated tire look for uneven wear on the tread and or bulges in the rubber. check your shocks, it could be a bad shock causing the tire to bounce but not likly a shock if it only happens at 60.

1. Get tires re-balanced
2. Get a new alignment
3. check steering components

I agree with all of the above...UNLESS your car vibrates severely at idle, and smoothes out when you rev the engine over 1k...THEN, I would say you need motor mounts as well...but bad motor mounts will not make your steering shake at 60....start with balancing...and make sure they check your tires for "out of round" imperfections that a typical balance would not pick up...Cus

i've heard a "slight" vibration at highway speeds was a common problem on early models and porsche issued a bulletin saying it was normal.

Make sure you do not have an out of round tire.

I'm going to go will a tire out of balance or an out of round tire. The tape of weights can come loose if you are overly agressive with cleaning agents etc. Even a small curb bump can sometimes effect the balance and alignment.

I finally got tired of this prob. on my 87 924s...so I broke out the manual for the car and checked the specifications for tire pressure. It says 29 lbs. cold for the front and 36 lbs. for the rear. Wow what a difference it made. Car handles a whole lot better and what do you know the 60-62MPH shimmys...GONE!

I had the same problem with mine. It basically went away after I replaced the original cookie cutters with a set of phone dials. One of the cookies must have had a slight bend or defect it in. I replaced just about everything else (tires, struts, wheel balancings, even a new steering rack) just to find it was the wheel! Expensive lesson, oh well, it needed the other stuff too.
