Theres a Guards Red.....go to E-bay & search under Porsche 944...someones got an original sales brochure from 84 with paint chips & sure enough it says "guards red"....

pschaars951 04-03-2001 08:05 PM

in the workshop manuals it lists "guards red" under the years 82 & 83. The paint code is LM3A. Then in 84 they list an "india red" with the same paint code LM3A. There is an "india red" listed for every model year after 84 until 1990, all of which are LM3A. In 1990 and 91 there is an "indian red" which is also LM3A.

hey Raf944... yours might be "Zermatt silver metalic" ?? but there is nothing similar listed to Zweichet (at least not in 1985 or 86)

edit: what color does it look like, silver?

My 84' German brochure says "Indischrot". I agree that it is the same color but I've always wondered about the name.

kcturbo 04-03-2001 10:47 PM

Still no code for Siberrossa, whats up with that? 3 years still no paint code. Does anyone even know what I am talking about?

redNeckarsulm2 04-04-2001 04:42 AM

Guards Red and India Red are the same color, derived from the uniform of the British guard in India years back, hence the name(s). Why the change in name? Dunno, marketing strategy, I assume...

944Driver 04-04-2001 05:41 AM

I have an '83 and the paint code sticker says Indischrot on it. Looks like they've always called it that, since the beginning (it's guards red of course).

I have an original Porsche sales brochure for the 1986 944 turbo, and the color samples they have in the back of the brochure says "guards red".

redNeckarsulm2 04-04-2001 10:50 AM
