Vitesse Stage 2 - Turbo Kit 951

Haven't had a chance to clean this engine up..... I was in such a hurry to install the kit before winter........ Once winter comes I will have a few more surprises for this car.........

So details of what has been done to date.....

Vitesse Stage 2 Kit
- Turbo
- MAF
- Chips and Dip
- PB SMT 6 controller
55 lb injectors
Lindsey Racing Wastegate
Lindsey HardPipes
MBC
Huntley Fuel Pressure Regulator
Guru resistors
Autometer guages
....other odds and ends.

** Guru Ultimate Head Gasket on the shelf for winter rebuild
** SFR intercooler waiting to order (unless John comes up with something)

To tell you about the experience................

1. Changing a turbo is a PIA. I think it was easier doing an entire engine rebuild. It really helps having a guy like John to ask even the simplest of questions.

2. You think there is no room on an NA engine. I can't see how they managed to squeeze a turbo in this same engine bay. The car also generates at least 10 times more heat than the NA engine. It really is unbelievable.

3. Installing Piggyback and resistors to the DME pretty straight forward no big issues. Check everything twice.

4. Vacuum hoses. What a flippen nightmare. I can believe the number of hoses on this car. There is an octopus of hoses under the intake!!!

5. Support: John from Vitesse provides incredible support. I can't praise him enough on his ability to think ahead of me at every turn. He would email answers to questions I was just about to ask. I would not think twice about buying more things from him!!!

The car as it sits is running 15 psi on 91 octane (can you believe that) Its next to impossible finding 92. I would have to drive 200 miles to get 94!!!

Anyways the car pulls like I can't begin to tell you. I went and ran the car in the highway and did the famous 70-100 mph run with a friend (he was holding my laptop as we logged data on the car from the Piggyback on the vitesse kit), full tank of gas, 75 degrees outside...... The car ran ~4.0 seconds in 4th gear!!!!!!!! not 3rd ... 4th. Started at 60 mph.... boost began to build and she went......

The car is not fully tuned yet..... I am hoping to run a separate map of 18 psi when I can get hold of some good gas. One of the great features of the vitesse piggy back system is that you can tune two separate maps for two different boost set ups........

Overall the experience has been great. I have a few scars on my hands from installing this turbo that I will always remember.

In the end this is truly the best bang for your buck. 'PERIOD'

Straight out of the box solution!

I would highly recommend the following.

1. Pelican Parts! - I received every gasket, belt, bolts etc.... on time!! and in stock!!!

2. www.vitesseracing.com

Noteable mentions to Guru and Lindsey.

Alex, check either the fuel pressure regulator or the fuel pressure gauge. One was completely trashed and Matt and I traced down an idle problem to it. If I remember correctly it was the Huntley regulator, with a whole 10k miles in it that was completely out of wack. We replaced the regulator with a stock one and the car ran much better. If that Huntley regulator is the one that came with the car it could be lights out! Those VDO fuel pressure gauges are junk too. That is the second one that I had on the car and I believe it was malfunctioning. Let me know if you need anymore specifics. I believe the FPR is the cause of your idle problems because Matt had the same problem.

ERic:

I pulled the vacuum hose to the regulator and the idle remained out of whack ..... I drove the car last night and this morning with B&C on the test plug shorted and it idles fine....except when cold.....

I did replace my fuel pressure guage with another guage........and it seem to be accurate. Except I went to check this morning and this guage is pegged to the max as well?????? like that vdo one that was on the car???? uhmmmmmm I think the FPR may be part of the problem as well..... would explain some erratic surging.

I will order another FPR thanks!!!!

I am leaving to disneyworld tomorrow....so all my extras should be in when I get back.... then its the dyno and a couple of 40 psi glory runs down the 1/4 mile track

Yo Mama: I think eric had an SFR short shift kit.....at first I thought it was too short...but it actually is nice and tight when you shift.....

Are you running the 70-100 via the indicated speed?

The DME maybe compensating for the low octane gas via timing. I don't think ~4 sec (70-100, floor it @ 60, start timer @70 stop @100 indicated) is what you should be getting. I'm not familiar w/the torque curve of the vitesse set up, it may be geared for higher rpm power, but about 3.9 sec 70-100 runs were the norm for me w/the stock turbo and no MAF (I did not have a passanger, and cooler days, but your car should be a great deal faster than that at this point). Tuning should make a big difference. I would be interested in what your car would do w/out a passanger also. If I remember correctly passenger/gas level and temps effected mine .2-.4 secs.

Good luck w/the process, as I come closer to buying a turbo? I get more interested in how other people's set-ups work out.

Ahmet...

The torque on this car is ridiculous.......

I only did two runs, since I am having an FPR issue as well. When I recorded the 4 second run I didnt think much of it. I was trying to get log files for my laptop............

So I was searching to see what people had run in the pelican and rennlist archives. Oddly enough my run was done in 4th gear where as everyones I found was in 3rd gear..... WHen I have her re-tuned I will do some 3rd gear runs which I think will take a little time of my 4 second run......

I plan to throw her on the dyno and track her down the 1/4 a couple of times to have some real world numbers as well.....

I like the 70-100 run but its not the safest thing to be doing on the road...........

P.S. On the topic of not doing safe things..........On my way a rsx-type s pulls up on the light heading out on to the highway. He revs it up... young kid with his girlfriend. Normally I don't do this but....hey...open highway straight ahead...
I hear his wheels spin....I eaze into first ..floor it... 2 cars ahead...eaze into 2nd....5 cars ahead... (I hear him squeel his 2nd shift)........3rd........... 110mph eaze of the gas.... It was a nice easy run. This car is nothing like the car that it was.... I was running 15 psi on authority chips prior to this....
