Porsche Crest Interesting car I am gonna look at

http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=134607648&dealer_id=&car_year=1986&make=POR&distance=100&max_price=&model=944&advcd_on=n&end_year=2004&min_price=&certified=n&address=40241&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1983&color=&cardist=19

That car is oe that is close to me that I am thinking about going to have a look at, anything that anyone can see already that sounds wrong or look like a turn off? I'm sure there is something. But people are always asking if you can run car fax for them, would someone actually like to do that for me? I'm gonna talk to the owner and find out some more, looks pretty good though.

I was thinking the mileage ain't bad until I saw that the odo has been broken for the last six months. He says that he garaged it at that time but I wouldn't count on it. If you go look at the car and you decide that it is a really good deal, add another 10 to 20% to the mileage and see if you still want to spend the money for it. That way you'll correct for the possibility of the actual mileage being significantly higher.

He also says that he has the maintenance records. This would be a great assett for determining the condition of the car as far as making sure that periodic maintenance has been done and if there are any 'is-there-a-bigger-underlying-problem-here' repairs. Best bet is to take someone along that knows the 944 and can look at the car with you.

Don't know whether you got the Carfax info but the mileage on it now is apparently the same as it was in December of 2001. Other than that the Carfax shows no issues. Previously registered in Indiana and Kentucky.

Good luck,
Tom

maintenance records are awesome. make sure they are comprehensive.
if its the original clutch dont give him more than $4500-4000
also take a look at the pedals. at 119,000 the brake pedal should be worn but probably shouldnt be any metal showing. and the usual stuff check near bolts under the hood and fenders to see if its been repainted and all that jazz

Dude, if I were you I would keep looking. It took me some time to find a good 944, but trust me, they are out there. If it helps any, I bought my 944 for the same price ($5500) as the red one is advertised for, and at the time my car had only 63K miles and all service records (Porsche dealer maintained) since new. I found the car in Burlington, KY. The deals are out there, just keep looking and I'm sure you'll find something.

By the way, my friend is selling his '86 n/a here in Lexington. The car is Zermatt silver with a burgundy interior. It looks nice. He lives down my street, so I can go check it out anytime. The engine has 50K miles on it, the car has about 120K. He's done some minor stuff to it like a stereo, throttle cam, and painted crests on the phonedial wheels. Other than that the car is stock. Let me know if you want the contact info.

yeah, i am not done looking at all, but I have definately decided I want a car that is either black or red, I still have to wait for $ so I can buy something, just assessing my options thats all, and I feel like I do know alot about these cars, enough to know if it is a good one of a lemon or not. I have been through many of the historic problems and helped pearldrum w/ some of his. I know what to look for. I was just wondering if it had koni yellows, I love those so much.

yea the wear on the brake pedal gives you the best idea of how much the car was actually used.
