Hi
I'm new to the board and from the UK - I bought a 82 924 Carrera replica a couple of weeks ago and only drove around 50 miles - This morning driving to work I could not change gear's (very hard) - I pulled to the next Clutch replacement place to see if the clutch is faulty - they told me that the clutch seemed ok and that I should consider to rebuild my Gearbox ..... everytime i press the clutch pedal it makes a thought of grinding noise (back). ( bearing?) At the moment i have to force the gears in whilst driving and I have sometimes problems to switch gears whilst driving (wont move) - I have to get home later 2 miles and then I wont touch the car till fixed - My first porsche too. Any advise what it could be and how much ??(somebody mentioned that it could be the gear selector?) Thanks Frank |

We had a similar issue on my 924. Turns out the firewall where the clutch cable goes thru was built from tin foil or something. They have a tendency to crack and lose rigidity. I had the mechanic brace the clutch and brake pedals with welded angle iron for support and laminate the firewall with 1/8 inch steel plate around the hole for the clutch cable. The bending caused the shift to be grinding or couldn't shift at all. I was told this is the achilles heel for the 924. My 2 cents....
