Odd brake problem.
Ok, so I have decided to work on a few little things while my car sits in the driveway due to broken linkage. One thing that I have been living with for about 3 months now is bad brakes. The brakes were just repaired not too long ago; new pads, re-packed wheel bearings, and bled several times (by me, to attempt to fix the problem)
The pedal depresses a good 3 inches before I feel any real pressure against my foot. I can pump the pedal two or three times and then I get pressure. The actual stopping power seems unaffected (compared to my brother's 944na.) The reservoir is brand new and it was installed properly. There is absolutely no fluid leaking, anywhere. The back brakes bleed fine, no bubbles. But the front brakes seem to have bubbles every now and then - however they always bleed out. Even after I bleed the brakes the problem doesn't go away. Once I turn the key for the first time after bleeding them the pedal depresses again. I make sure that my wheels are always torqued correctly, but that doesn't seem to prevent anything. Does anyone know if there is a problem with my master cylinder, possibly my brake booster, or a check valve leading to it? My mechanic told me to torque the rear axle at the CV bolts. But I don't think that is my problem - if anything I think the problem is with the front brakes, I guess I’m willing to give it a try though. -Jamie |
Sounds like master cylinder or brake booster
First thing to do is double check all of your lines - make sure all fittings are tight and the reservoir is tight in the grommet. Once you have verified all of the above - With the car off, pump the brakes a few times - it should stiffen up, then with your foot on the brake, start the car, the pedal should drop slightly under your feet. If any of the above DO NOT happen - you have a faulty brake booster. Otherwise, your master cylinder is on its way out - you should not be getting bubbles in your lines from time to time. AFJuvat |
