Do a search on this forum, this has got to be the most oftenly asked question and is even in several FAQ's throughout the internet.

heat on

Dear 944 with heat,

I had heat on all the time in my '83 944, the problem was a broken end of a cable. That cable connects your temperture selecting slide in your console and the heater valve in your engine compartment. My cable was broken off on the engine side. A heater valve opens and closes to allow hot water/antifreeze from your engine into something called a heater core. With the valve open, hot engine coolant passes thru the heater core and warms up your incoming air. E-mail me if you want a procedure to reach down in the engine area and turn the valve off. tfranko29@pga.com

Good Luck,
Frank

The later model 944's use a different heater system.

Above the gas pedel is a white plastic link. This either falls off or breaks.
