help identify this engine connector
Hey can any of you guys identify this sensor connector. It comes out of the engine harness at the rear knock sensor. I am installing a new (used) engine harness and the original harness didnt have this connector. I hope the pictures attach correctly.I am still trying to reach the seller to see what car this harness came from.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1059963207.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1059963232.jpg

It looks like a fuel injector connecter, didn't some of the 944s have a 5th injector somewhere? Anyone?
|
Some 924s and 944s have a cold start injector in the intake manifold, could that be it?
|
This harness had to come from another 944S because it has the connectors for 2 knock sensors. As far as I know the 16v engine never used a cold start injector but thanks for the guess. Any one else?

There are two plugs in that area that appear to be the same. One is for the DME engine temp sensor and the other is for the guage temp sensor.
The temp sensors are in the engine block to back of where the top radiator hose comes across. I can't remember what the cam gear sensor plug looks like. I'll see if the manuals show anything. |
Its hard to tell from the pics but I found the two temp sensors. One had 2 female terminals and the other had a fuel injector type of connector so those 2 are accounted for and the 2 knock sensors are accounted for and the air stabilizer conn. is on the line with the fuel injectors but I still have one extra connector that I cant account for. One of the wires is brown and the other looks like yellow with a black stripe. I looked at wiring diagrams for 87,88, and 89, 16v engines and I couldnt find anything. Let me know if you find anthing and if you need more pics let me know. I appreciate you help. Lonnie

Can somebody tell me what 944 came w/a 5th injector?
BTW, that looks like a temp sensor to me (DME). Ahmet |
Oh yeah the cam gear sensor is accounted for also.
|
the only other connector is the idle bypass valve. This is a servo type valve on the 944S's. The DME totally controls it unlike the early 944's where it just heats up.
|
1.2gees are you talking about a cold enrichment injector or is there something else
|
As far as I know no variant of a 944 came w/a 5th injector, that's why I asked.
Is this a two prong connector or a 3 prong. There's not much else in that area, if it's not the temp sensor I would think idle controller is likely also. My experience w/the early 16v 944 engine is very limited, but I'm trying to help out. Ahmet |
This is a 2 prong connector. The seller said it came from a 88 944S but I still need to find out what that connector went to. Thanks for trying to help.
|
did anyone mention the tank venting valve? (violet / red-blue wires)
what color wires are under the gray sheath? |
Hey I checked the wires . One is brown and goes to terminal #42 at the DME. the other is white with a green tracer and it goes inside the pass compartment and comes out of the harness about a foot before the DME connector and goes into a flat black 8 terminal connector at terminal#5. When it goes through the connector the wire color changes to black with a green tracer and goes on into the car somewhere.

Hey I talked with Jim Burton the owner of Euro Werks Ltd. here in Charlotte and he looked it up in his factory Porsche manuals and said the connector went to the sensor for the Crankcase ventilation heater and since my car doesnt use that I dont need to worry about it. I think it only came on the 1988 944S. I highly recommend Jim to any one with a tricky Porsche problem. (704-882-6466 is his #) Thanks to every one who tried to help. Its nice to have people to talk to about these things. Lonnie
