Post Duh.....How do I change rear speakers?

Hey all...I'm laying new performance speaker wire and I realized the the rear speakers are magically sealed....how in the hell do I remove the rear panels to get to those darn speakers? Also, where do they run the speaker wire to those speakers...under the carpet, seat?

thx all....

P.S. Mideast, where did you put your sub?...do you have pictures of your set up?

Hey Brandon...the speaker wire runs under the black plastic door sill...and if you pull out the black plastic vent in the door jam, you will see the wires to the speakers...To remove the rear side panels, you have to first remove the plastic door sill, then remove the moulding on the door seam along the edge of the rear panel...the vinyl wraps around that door seam, and is held down with rubber cement...carefully pull it loose...remove all of the screws in the panel...don't forget the one down low by the side of the seat cushion....Now you should be able to pull the panel away from the body...it will still be connected around the rear quarter window...If you have a right angle screw driver, you can remove the speaker with out any further removal of the panel...Otherwise you will have to pull the panel loose from the quarter window...the entire panel will come out, and you have full access to the speaker...I also know some have used a drill to enlarge four of the speaker "grill" holes in the panel that line up with the screws to allow a screwdriver to be inserted through the panel so it doesn't have to be removed...installation is reverse...however, if you remove the entire panel, you have to tuck the edge of the vinyl panel underneath the quarter window rubber with a flat tip screwdriver.....have fun!....Cus

I by passed those two speakers and put two boxes with 2 6x9 300 watt 4 way speakers in the rear. These sound so much better and there is so little room in the sides to replace the stock speakers. Additionally I put two high efficiency surface mount tweeters in the area by the legs, near the lid release and the adjacent area on the other side.

Thumbs up

Yeah, I just installed mine yesterday, I just got some 80 Watt 2-way Pioneers to replace the stock Blaupunkt ones. I didn't remove the whole panel, cuz it didn't seem like I can pull the panel from the rear quarter window without breaking something. I used a normal screw driver for 3 out of the 4 screws, but the last one required a right angle screw driver (I used a small wrench I had, with a phillips screwdriver head bit). It took about 2 hours to do the 2 rear speakers with me and a friend pulling on the panel to make room for screwing/unscrewing without damaging the panel.

Good Luck.

Thanks for all your replys...I'll be takeing on this task by my self all today or tommorrow, as soon as I figure out which speakers I want to throw back there....I also bought some higher grade speaker wire suggested by most of you in my last post...I can't wait to hear some good tunes in a true sound mode with sub and everything...I have an idea for a custom box for the hatch back that will hide the amp and kind of give a ramp appearance to the sub without obstructing view in the rear view mirror...I will give you updates on the situation...

thx all

Fogot to ask one more question....

I plan on putting in component plate 4x6m plate speakers in the front but can't seem to find a set being sold of a midrange, tweeter, and crossover for the 4x6 size...I planned on buying some 4x6m plate speakers with a removable tweeter and then purchasing a seperate crossover....I want to run the tweeter to head level along the sliver of car between the front windshield and the front driver's and passengers windows...However I don't want the cord showing and I noticed that the panel looks as if it can be removed so as to hide the wire running to the tweeter... has anyone fiddeled with this before? Any other suggestions or solutions?

thx

Exclamation

That is not true, I have 4X6 pioneers, and they have a tweeter in them. Got them from Best Buy for a good deal.

They were from a 1993 nissan pulsar GTiR.
