Hatch key turns, what should happen??

When I go to open my hatch I turn the key, which disengages the lock just fine.
Then...
Is the hatch supposed to pop up a little so I can lift it from the bottom?

Right now it just sits there, tightly sealed and I have to pull up on the wing in order to make it lift.
Is it supposed to lift up a bit??

BTW- right now the hatch shocks are no good.

If lifting on the spoiler you can feel a "catch" other than the resistance of the gas springs not helping then the pins and latches need to be adjusted.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Well, I dont feel a "catch". I was just wondering if it was supposed to "pop" up a little when the latch opens...You know, like most trunks.

I have a rattle from the hatch at idle so I am assuming that the pins are a bit too loose. After what I have found in the engine bay so far I am suspect of ANY rubber parts on this vehical, mostly due to the age.

So,
Turn the key,
Nothing moves
Lift up on the wing while holding the key in the unlock position

= Normal?

Just making sure you know.

With a perfectly adjusted hatch, new seal and new gas springs I've been able to get the hatch to pop only by giving it a bit of a nudge first. I use my knee in the middle.

I have to push down lightly when I turn the key to open my hatch then it comes up with ease.

either that, or sometimes when the windows are rolled up and the roof is closed, I pop the hatch with the remote and when I get out and close the door... voilla.

Bernoulli would have been proud

Pins are a bit too tight.

OR

The latches need to be adjusted.

AND/OR

The glass has seperated from the top part of the frame throwing everything out of whack.

Hugh, would you believe that most of the time my hatch won't pop up because the seal is actually a bit too sticky?

ah yes, a thread about getting it up

Hhhmmmm, as I thought...My hatch is a bit sticky.

First step Replace gas shocks
Second Tighten pins slightly

Seems like there would be a little spring around that pin to "get it going" abit.
