944 Dying when hot!

I have a 1987 944. It starts and runs fine, but when it gets warmed up; it dies. It won't start again until it cools off after
about 10 minutes. I have beed hearing shorting noises coming
from the DME area. I pulled off the brain and another box. I don't
know what the othe box is. Anyone know? Should I replace the brain? The other box has (Audiovox corporation model cmt-550)
and (Toshiba Corporation) on it. Could it be a cell phone box?

Thanks!

Might just be loose solder joints in the DME. If you have some electronics experiance you can open the DME and resolder the joints.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Hugh, is that a common occurence on these DMEs? also, isn't there a climate control relay in the vicinity of the glovebox that could be mistaken for the shorting sound? (might only be on 85.5 and up)

The post 85.5's have a small circulation fan beside the glove box that pulls cabin air over a temp sensor. Like all small cheap fans these wear out and cause the rattling noise usually head from computers.

I wasn't considering the noise as part of the problem. It's the 10 minute cool down.

Could also be engine DME temp sensor related. Or the starter. Really need more info.

agreed. reason why I asked is that lately I've been getting an occasional clicking sound from the vicinity of the glove box that sounds like a relay that's about to go.

clogged fuel filter, weak fuel pump, causing vapor locking.
